About the lecture

The heart of the Milky Way has remained hidden for centuries, behind dense clouds of gas and dust that block visible light. However, thanks to new observation techniques, today we can glimpse beyond them and discover Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole that lives within.

In this talk we will trace the path that led to confirming the existence of this extreme object: a story of technological advances, theoretical ideas and the collective work of the scientific community over generations. We will also explore the mysteries that still surround the core of our galaxy.
