About the lecture

Two-dimensional spectroscopy, also known as 3D spectroscopy, is a revolutionary technique that simultaneously obtains high-resolution spatial and spectral information. This capability has been a significant advance in various fields of astrophysics, such as the chemical evolution of galaxies and cosmology.

In this lecture we will take a historical tour of the traditional techniques of photometry and spectroscopy, which will allow us to place the importance and innovative nature of 3D spectroscopy in context. We will also present some of the main discoveries made possible by its application.
